A New Jersey police officer, SGT. William Koretsky was admitted in the Hackensack University Medical Central with critical injury. The healthcare unit accessed medical records of Koretsky by reading the RFID chips being implanted in his upper right arm.



The Hackensack emergency room staff came to know that Koretsky had diabetes and speed up his treatment. Koretsky was recovered timely. In this way, RFID chips got a milestone in the healthcare units.



Now, a number of hospitals in USA are gearing up to implement RFID technology. The tags of VeriChip Corp. have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. A hospital in the Bay Area will deploy VeriChip tags very soon. It is estimated that some 200 hospitals will implement VeriChip tags by the end of the year 2006.
