The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) and the Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Standards Committee (VICS) announced the release of a report - Moving Forward with Item-Level Radio Frequency Identification in Apparel/Footwear.
The report is prepared by Kurt Salmon Associates (KSA) with talking help from industry members. It highlights mainly three things: -
i. Where RFID item-level tagging provides the greatest value along the value chain
ii. Who stands to benefit most from RFID
iii. Which merchandise categories are best-suited to deriving tangible benefits
The KSA study report is the outcome of a 4-month study of business practices and process impacts of RFID on -
a. Manufacturing
b. Distribution/logistics
c. Inventory management
d. Store operations
e. Finance
f. Loss prevention
g. Merchandising
The report’s objective is helping member companies in determining the right starting point for RFID evaluation.
Mary Howell, VP, Industry Relations, AAFA said;
“The results of the white paper indicate clear benefits for RFID item-level tagging for the apparel and footwear value chain, especially at the store level. Companies running pilots are beginning to realize the potential benefits of this technology.”
