Assa Abloy is for the first time designing a RFID-supported lock system for the hotels. The lock system is in its testing stage. Some of the European hotels have started implementing the locking systems in an experimental basis. The company plans to make it available in the market by October.

Most of the hotels use magnetic-stripe cards. These cards rarely work satisfactorily due to its wrong insertion or clogged reading head. The customers will find no such problem with RFID enabled locks developed by Assa Abloy.

Stockholm-based Assa Abloy’s locks integrate HF 13.56 MHz readers compatible with the ISO 14443A, ISO 14443 B and ISO 15693 standards. The hoteliers can issue RFID-tagged room cards supported by NFC standard to their customers. They can use NFC enabled phones to enter into hotel rooms.

Assa Abloy’s locks are costlier (20 percent more) in comparison to the magnetic stripe locks. However, the hotel owners can offer convenience services to their customers by using these locks.
