According to a report released by IDTechEx, chipless RFid tags might eventually replace trillions of barcodes and be printed on products and packaging for as little as 0.1 cent a piece. The report states that that these tags could see a rapid gain in market share over the next ten years. It is expected that the numbers would rise from 5 million units in 2006 to 267 billion units by 2016 which would increase the market share of chipless RFid tags from 0.4 % to 45%.
After 2016, chipless RFid tags would dominate the market. The market for chipless RFid markets is expected to reach $2.8 billion by this period of time.
