Satisfied with the RFID chips implemented on admission tickets in the just concluded FIFA world cup 2006, the Germany government is now kicked up to harness this latest technology for mass applications.
In reply to a question raised by Alliance 90/the Greens in the parliament, the government said that the RFID tags are highly productive for mass applications at major events. It asserted that access to the stadiums was impossible without an RFID chip on an admission ticket.
The cost of using RFID tickets during the world cup was around 20 million euros. The RFID chips costs 10 cents per ticket. Around 4.5 million tickets were printed for the mega sporting event.
The RIFD-supported tickets enabled the organizers and security personnel to obtain all the vital data regarding the seat number, sponsor of the game and personal information of the ticket holder. In this way, the RFID technology played a major role in the organization of the mega sporting event.
