We have already reported the critical remarks of security experts on America’s RFID-enabled e-passport idea. The recently concluded Defcon security conference in Las Vegas will further complicate the debate over e-passport.
It is more or less apparent that not only America but also other leading nations also face the same situation for the implementation of RFID passports. Now take the example of Germany, which in fact introduced RFID supported passports.
Lukas Grunwald, a computer security expert vented his views on German passports saying these are vulnerable to hacking by anyone with widely available equipment. He also asserted he had found out a method for cloning the information stored in the new passports.
As per Lukas’s opinion, data can be transferred onto blank chips, which could then be attached in fake passports, a fault.
