Tokyoites now can gain information about the nearest stores, public facilities from, don’t fall from your chair, from street lamps. Yes, the bloody lifeless monotonous street lamps will now act as information providers. Nearly. Picturephoning reports

Attached to each street lamp was a so-called “information panel” that has an RFID tag embedded in it. The local goverment plans to tag more street lamps next year aiming at tagging all 10,000 street lamps in the region.

Well the service does not reach to naked eyes. You need a PDA like device called Ubiquitous Communicator, (quite a jargon fro me) and what it does, reads RFID tags in street lamps. Quite easy.

So, nearby stores, public restrooms (that’s the most important info on crucial times at unknown not so known place hehe) event information are all at your finger tips and you stay always connected.
