Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), world’s fifth busiest international passenger airport hosting nearly 80 airlines has selected Intermec for its Gen 2 RFID bag tag printer system to boost its existing RFID baggage sorting system. This system was introduced last year to ensure safety and security to the passengers.
As part of the RFID program, the HKIA would install Intermec EasyCoder PF2i Baggage Tag Printers with integrated Gen 2 RFID modules to facilitate the use of baggage tags embedded with RFID Gen2 chips.
The printer will print out the flight and baggage data on the bag tag. Printed data would appear as visual barcode information. At the same time, the integrated RFID module will encode the data to the RFID Gen 2 chip. The bag tag would be embedded to all check-in baggage. In accordance to the RFID data, the airport authorities would sort out and load the check-in baggage.
