Utah-based agricultural technology company TekVet has picked up IBM to get its technical support to empower its RFID-based cattle tracking and temperature monitoring system.

TekVet has developed its TekSensor devices, which is based on 413 MHz active RFID technology. It carries a flexible thermometer. The TekSensor devices are highly productive for the livestock tracking system.

The livestock tracking system facilitates cattle owners and investors to monitor animal location on Internet in real time. The advantage of TekVet solution over the traditional tracking system is that it not only tracks animals but also tracks core body temperature of the animals.

The temperature data generated by the RFID informs the owners to monitor the health of the herd and medicate or quarantine sick animals in right time. In this way, the cow owners can reduce the medical bills of their animals and enhance profit-per animal for feedlot operators.

As per the agreement, IBM will offer reliable hardware support and maintenance, storage, helpdesk services, security management and network support to TekVet.
