Eradicating animal diseases like Mad Cow Disease, Foot and Mouth Disease, Pseudo Rabies Disease is one of the prime objectives of US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
For which, it has decided to use the Livestock tagging system of Digital Angel Corporation in the National Animal Identification System (NAIS).
Digital Angel Corporation is one of the very few companies, which develops the latest RFID and GPS technologies for the location tracking, accurate identification and condition monitoring of high value assets.
Realizing this, the USDA has approved Digital Angel for the NAIS, a cooperative program between the state and federal governments. With this approval, Digital Angel emerges as the first animal tag manufacturer.
As part of the NAIS program, Digital Angle’s tags would be used to identify livestock with the unique, lifetime animal identification number that is being established as a national standard through the NAIS.
It is an established fact that America earns a major portion of national income by exporting animals in the international market. For instance, it exports about 3.5 billion dollars worth of beef to other countries. The decision to implement RFID technology in the NAIS program would further boost the export of animals.
