Being satisfied with RFID trials at its 42 stores, the UK based leading clothing retailer Marks & Spencer has decided to deploy item-level RFID tags at its all clothing stores nationwide.
James Stafford, head of Clothing RFID at M&S quoted,
Our clothing RFID work is a good example of how we are using new technology for increased business efficiency and customer service. Stock accuracy has improved, and the customers have commented on the more consistent availability of sizes.
The deployment of item-level RFID tags would help the retailer to carry out in-store stocktakes accurately and more efficiently. At the same time, the staff at each individual store would meet the customers’ demand like sizes, styles and colors of the clothing materials. In this way, the retailer would bring improvements in the selling.
The retailer introduced the RFID technology in an experimental basis for the first time in 2003. The results were satisfactory, says the retail giant. It is now planning to deploy RFID tags at its 450 stores throughout the UK.
