In an effort to boost the selling of automobiles, the California-based Bob Lewis Automotive has installed wireless mesh technology of Firetide to enable outdoor operation of its key and inventory management system.

The mesh technology would support Bob Lewis Automotive’s KeyWhere RFID tracking system to maintain update data on any vehicle on the lot. The tracking system contains portable electronic lockboxes embedded to each automobile. It facilitates the sales personnel to instantly access ignition keys for test drives by swiping a personal RFID card and entering a PIN on a lockbox keypad.

Bo Larsson, CEO of Firetide said,

This deployment demonstrates how flexible Firetide’s multi-service mesh infrastructure is and how it can work seamlessly with RFID, ZigBee, WiFi and other industry technologies.

The collected data is sent to the access points attached to the Firetide wireless mesh network through ZigBee wireless interface.
