After Wal-Mart, it is now Germany-based retail giant Metro Group’s turn to roll out a major RFID deployment at its stores.
According to this news, the Metro Group is all set to carry out a dock-to-door RFID roll out at its 150 stores during the middle of next year.
Generally, the dock-to-door is a kind of system, which calls for the deployment of RFID technology at the place where goods are uploaded from a truck and at the point (say the gate for incoming and outgoing goods) where they enter the warehouse. This enables auto flow of goods in a warehouse.
The Group will be using Gen 2 Electronic Product Code (EPC) interrogators from Intermec and Sirit Technologies for the RFID program.
Revealing the dock-to-door roll out at the RFID Journal Live, a company’s representative Christian Plenge said,
We have achieved a level of maturity in the technology that has so dramatically improved in the last six months that we at Metro have decided to roll out the technology on dock-door receiving gates next year.
