One of the main problems with UHF based RFID tags are that they are subject to multipath interference, which is common with electromagnetic signals. This results in the RFID tag becoming unreadable even if they are within the range of the reader.

For this, Omron has come up with a solution. It has developed a new type of antenna technology that can control electronically the electromagnetic field that the reader emits.

Actually the technology developed by Omron’s makes it possible to reduce multipath interference by allowing a wave with directivity to propagate in any specific direction.

In addition to this, the reader can control the direction of the electromagnetic wave propagation. Now, with this you can direct the wave’s direction of propagation such that it avoids objects near the beam that may be the cause of signal reflections making it possible for the reader to track the tag!
