The Pharmaceutical Industry Associations of America have supported the U.S Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) report on RFID’s use in the pharmaceutical industry.



The report entitled FDA Counterfeit Drug Task Force Report: 2006 Update, contains suggestions for building a more secure and safe pharmaceutical industry supply chain management. The task force has been investigating RFID technology and the concept of e-pedigree for more than two years.



The American Pharmacists Association (APhA), the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and the Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA) are three pharmaceutical industries associations are keen to accept the recommendations of the Task Force. They opine that RFID technology is significant for maintaining the pharmaceutical supply chain.



In the report, FDA has urged the industries to adopt the latest RFID technology at its speed. However, FDA has not made it mandatory for the time being.
