It seems the European Union has finally got serious about RFID and Security. It has launched public consultations on concerns over RF ID tags. Actually, the EU is concerned that RFID tags not only report their location, identity and history but everything that pose a risk to personal privacy and security. Besides, there are technical interoperability and international compatibility too.



The Commission’s public debate on RFID will involve a series of workshops to build consensus on key issues associated with the use of RFID. Topics for these workshops include:



a) RFID applications,

b) End-user issues,

c) Interoperability and standards,

d) Frequency spectrum requirements.







These workshops will be held in Brussels from March till June 2006. The commission will then draft a working document on RFID, which will be published in September this year.
