The debate over the privacy and security concerns of RFID technology is now more prominent in our society. The debate continues with the development of this technology in its each stage. The privacy office of DHS, which has prepared a draft, report of ‘The Use of RFID for Human Identification‘ criticizes RFID devices being used for human identification. The Emerging Applications and Technology Subcommittee of the Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee of DHS have come up with the above report, which is likely to be commented on May 22.
The report is very likely to unveil the drawbacks of RFID technology. The draft report, which is available with the Privacy office, slams RFID technology by pointing that it can be utilized to study human behavior. The report clearly mentions that the RFID technology can be misused.
At the same time, several case studies and surveys suggest that the RFID technology should go on at any cost because of its increasing applicability in various sectors. Therefore, it is the time to frame proper guidelines for the use of RFID technology.
