RFID industry now feels good for so many entrepreneurs. Going beyond commercial applications now scope in research and development catching everyone by surprise. While participating in the recent event, RFID Academic Convocation, the end users and representatives from the RFID academia suggested that several industries in many verticals would be needing “tens of millions” (doesn’t that sound a bit too hazy) of dollar investment in the coming five six years. Network protocol standards, specialized tags for airplanes, micro-macro manufacturing technologies are thought to be the key areas of investment.

Stephen Miles, a researcher from MIT estimates the total cost of required research and development requirement may exceed $100 million. Look he is somewhat specific this time.
