A cattle rearing is not merely an occupation but a way of life for the people of Texas, home to 15 million cattle. For that reason, the state of Texas has implemented RFID technology to put a leash on the cattle rustler and satisfied with the result.
The Cattle Raisers Association has recovered around 5,200 cattle, which costs near about $3.5 million in Texas and Oklahoma. It is double in number than the previous year. It was possible due to the large-scale implementation of RFID technology on the cattle.
As part of the implementation program, RFID chips containing a 15-digit identification number have been attached on animals and stored to a database. The owners recorded all the vital information in the tags. In this way, the stealing of animal was easily noticed .
So far, in USA only 5 percent of the 32 million cattle are equipped with RFID tags. The farmers consider the tags are not affordable. On an average, a tag costs around $2. While, the ongoing debate on privacy issue of RFID technology has its negative impact on adoption among the farmers.
