You must have heard that the Royal Mail, the national postal service of UK has lost more than 14 million letters last year and seven percent of mail was not delivered on time. The reason: Lack of independent assessment system.



Fazed by last year’s bizarre experience, the Royal Mail is now determined to redesign its postal service. For which, it is moving very fast to adopt RFID technology to monitor the flow of post, trace out problem areas and enhance delivery services.



At present, the Royal is undertaking a RFID trail at its three mail centers and in the process will implement in the every mail centers. It has 69 mail centers.



Once the RFID technology is rolled out, envelops would be embedded with an RFID tag and put into the system. A reader would scan these tags and inform whether the mails have reached their destinations in time. In this way, the Royal Mail would able to assess the operation of delivery system.
