Sentry Technology Corporation has received new contracts for its QuickCheck library patron self service system from Greater Victoria Public Library and Calgary Public Library for $ 335,000. It operates in a similar manner to a bank ATM. Users can access the library’s circulation software via a user card and touch screen video monitor. An RFid chip or barcode on the book is read, the security functions are performed and a receipt is printed to tell the patron regarding what books have been borrowed and when they would be returned. When the process is completed, the patron can exit the library through the security system without any intervention by library staff. It is a fast process, user friendly and frees library staff from circulation desk to perform higher level talks.
