shaw-industries_28 With a view to fulfill Wal-Mart’s RFID mandate, Carpet and rug supplier Shaw Industries has geared up to undertake an RFID pilot at its Calhoun, Ga., central distribution center. For which, the company has selected ODIN Technologies RFID system to tag rugs which have to be supplied for Wal-Mart stores.

Wal-Mart has notified its 300 suppliers to meet the RFID compliance by January 2007. Shaw Industries is one of them, which is moving very fast to implement RFID technology in the supply chain.

Jim Nielsen, the Shaw Industries’ manager of infrastructure planning says that the company had been investigating RFID and watching the market place to track its development.

The deployment of RFID technology will bring down the hidden costs and increase in the efficiency in the distribution of company’s products, Jim adds.
As told earlier, the retail giant Wal-Mart has implemented RFID technology in its 500 stores in September this year.
Wal-Mart has more than 3,900 stores in the USA. Off this, nearly 1000 stores would be using RFID technology by the year-end.
