SSA Global has asserted that it will move away from its plan to start RFID centre venture ‘centre of excellence’ in Hamilton. Trevor Barrows, the regional solutions manager of SSA Global says that the soaring cost of RFID tags on individual packages is the main reason for putting aside the RFID project. He adds that the customers would not get a return on investment until tags come down to less than ten cents and the reliability goes up. The manufacturing process is affected due to the high priced and less effective tags.
The company claims that about 14 percent of unreliable tags have to be discarded. Although the company has announced the postponement of its RFID venture in Hamilton, it will keep in touch with Innovaton Waikato, a non-profit organization established by B2H in the hope of starting the venture some day.
