To prevent identity mix ups a Birmingham hospital, The Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust plans to implement a pilot project covering 4,500 patients. To ensure that correct operations undertaken on correct patients this pilot test will cost the Trust a cool £300,000.
The system is supposed to make surgery a mistake proof one where it will track patients as they will be moved around the hospital. The ID makes it sure that patients will not receive any wrong treatment. Also the system, as hospital administration believes will enhance operation-theatre efficiency by many fold.
