Union Network International and UNI-Europa have written a letter to the EU Commissioner Viviane Reding about the extensive study, they conducted on the use and misuse of RFID technology.
The study finds potentiality of RFID technology in retail sector. The implementation of RFID technology in the supply chain management and warehouse reduces cost, saves time and benefits the business enterprises.
However, the study has raised concerns on this latest technology on the privacy grounds. The UNI-Europa asserts that the installment of RFID technology in the workplaces tracks the workers unnecessarily. This is a large-scale breach of individual’s privacy, which needs to be dealt with. Again, the letter written to Reding complains the RFID tags being attached with personal final without the knowledge of employees.
UNI has decided to look into these issues seriously. It would be introducing the UNI Code of Good Practice for RFID in the workplace.
