The US government has awarded a contract to German chip maker Infineon to supply millions of chips for US passports. The announcement has come just two weeks after the Black Hat Conference where the security experts warned the security threats of RFID-enabled passports.
Infineon becomes the first company to win a major contract from American government to provide chips for the passports.
As noted earlier, the government is very soon issuing about 15 million RFID passports to its citizens. Off which, seven million passports would carry the chips of Infineon.
Infineon is providing its chips for Epassports to various countries such as Germany, Hong Kong, Norway and Sweden.
