Undeterred by the sharp criticism on the RFID chips, the US State Department is all set to issue passports attached with RFID chips.
The State Department will meet the August deadline for the issuance of E-passports despite the strong comments from security experts that such systems could be illegally accessed or tracked.
The State Department will commence the program in the Denver passport office. The new program will be rolled out throughout the US in next few years. All most all the US passports will carry RFID chips by 2017. These chips contain personal information of the holders.
The State Department claims that it is very satisfied with the RFID trials over the years. Therefore, it has decided to provide RFID-enabled electronic passports for the Americans.
