
The news over last fortnight shows that the Florida-based RFID chip maker VeriChip Corporation is in constant touch with US government to acquire a deal to implant its chips under skin of 1.4 million US soldiers.
DC Examiner, a Washington-based newspaper claims that VeriChip is trying to convince the Pentagon to allow them to implant chips under the skin of the right arms of military personnel instead of the traditional dog tags.
Scott Silverman, CEO of VeriChip Corporation explained that VeriChip is in talks with the Air Force, Navy and the Department of Veterans Affairs to sell its RFID chips.
VeriChip is asserting that its chips are secure and reliable to implant in human skin despite the fact that two hackers Annalee Newitz and Jonathan Westhues proved how VeriChips’s chips could be easily cloned.(Read Number Six Conference).
However, DC Examiner says that the company might get a favor from Pentagon as it has power political connection.
