Wal-Mart’s revolutionary radio frequency identification mandate that all suppliers need to attach RFID chips to all pallets and cartons delivered back in 2003 totally changed the face of retail, logistic and warehousing industry. And this is how niche technology became a mainstream application. Now after showing the world the real power of retailing giant Wal-Mart is all poised to build new initiatives for its partners and suppliers into the game with the help of RFID.

Now, at the ongoing RFID World event 2006, Wal-Mart made public its future RFID success plans and designs. In this regard it is significant when you hear Carolyn Walton, the VP of IS for the retail behemoth saying

Our out-of-stocks were reduced by 16 percent with the use of RFID. We also saw that when an item is out of stock, if it was tagged with RFID, it was replenished, put on the shelf, three times faster than it normally would.

So, you can expect a good return on investment even without huge change in the process. And out of stock items can be replenished three times faster.
