Zebra Technologies, a global leader in bar code printer has acquired the RFID patent portfolio of BTG (Business Technology Group).
Zebra considers the patents are significant for the development of cost-effective high performance RFID technology. The portfolio was obtained for cash consideration of about $10 million.
A company statement says,
This portfolio of more than 200 U.S. and foreign patents and patent applications makes Zebra owner of one of the largest collections of RFID patents, including several of the earliest patents related to the technology.
Zebra explains that the acquisition is part of Zebra’s investment in a broad range of products and technologies necessary to dominate the RFID market.
